In an interview with IGN, screenwriter Michael Green confirms:
“It’s Hal Jordan. I can’t give too many spoilers, but the idea is to introduce a new character to an audience that is probably not familiar with him. So we start at the beginning with Hal Jordan.”
and today, Warner Brothers announced the official release date for the comic book adaptation, Green Lantern: December 17, 2010. (hat tip ERC via Filmonic)
While this is a great date for the movie…Hal Jordan AGAIN? There’s NEVER been a compelling Hal Jordan story in any animated incarnation of this story, and let’s be real…With the exception of Final Night, Hal Jordan as Green Lantern in the books? Hasn’t been all that great in a long time. So you’re going to introduce a lamer Lantern to an audience who knows better. Hmm. last time I heard a plan like that it was…SUPERMAN RETURNS.
This should totally be a John Stewart movie.
At the very least, Kyle Rayner. these guys were artists and creativity is crucial to Green Lantern character. Otherwise you get big green boxing gloves hitting bad guys over the head.
But, the studio has spoken. Six months of casting rumors begin…now.
