Need another reason to call your dad this weekend? Try this trailer for Sony’s upcoming end-of-the-world movie, 2012.
There’s a great cast in here…John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Danny Glover, Woody Harrelson…but none of those people appear to be the stars of this film. The star of this movie is doom. Dude. DOOM. It’s Roland Emmerich (“Independence Day”, The Day After Tomorrow”) with a bigger budget. So, if it was standing in the opening credits, it’s gone by the end. Also true to Emmerich form, there will be the ol’ “will the family stick together through the explosions” subplot.
It looks like they’ve combined the casting sensibility of Armageddon and the “OhMyGodThatScienceMakesNoSenseButTheExplosionsAreGREAT”-ness of “Deep Impact” in ONE MOVIE this time.
The bad thing? The people who edited the “Cast Away” trailer are at it again. Why go see this movie now? We’ve seen where it goes! The teaser trailer, at least, had some mystery. This gives it all away. Or, at least it seems that way.
