Lars von Trier, the self-proclaimed “best film director in the world”, is moving to make disaster movies. It could be argue that he’s already started with “Antichrist“, but he’s making it official with “Planet Melancholia”, a $4.6M English-language project due to shoot in Germany and Sweden next summer.
“No more happy endings!” Von Trier declared of Zentropa‘s new film, which he is writing and directing. Though he and Peter Aalbæk Jensen, partners in Zentropa, do warn that there will be some romance and challenging cinematography. “There will be spectacular images mixed up with handheld camera…but this time with no genitals being chopped off.”
