[The Conversation] Aida Rodriguez

Today we caught up with the very busy Aida Rodriguez. Aida is a fast rising star in the world of comedy. Hailing from the multi-cultural enclave of Miami, this bi-lingual Puerto Rican/Dominican Comedic Actress/Writer has her eyes on the prize and is quickly on her way to obtaining it.

We really enjoyed our conversation with her, and hope you will, too.

TBBO: What movie influenced you most?
Like Water for Chocolate is one of my all time favorites pieces and really inspired me as an all around entertainer. It made me feel that Latina women could be strong on screen and tell stories of depth.

TBBO: Who would play you in a biographical role?
I would have my fellow Dominican Zoe Saldana play Aida Rodriguez, she is a stellar performer and amazing talent.

TBBO: What movie would you love to star in?
The Rita Moreno life story. I know she is still with us but man she is the story of all stories.

TBBO: What is worst movie you ever saw?
The ones that I only saw in my head because the film maker didn’t have the follow through to get it done.

TBBO: Favorite piece of modern technology?

My Flip (camera)! as a Comedian/Actor/Writer/Producer and simply a person, I enjoy documenting the moments.

TBBO: “The Greatest Song” how has working on this film changed you as an artist?

The Greatest Song was my “empowerment” project. I decided many moons ago not to sit around and wait to be discovered, this is a romantic notion that many have. I wrote my movie and found some great people to align themselves with the goal and we went for it. I was able to employ people just like me and it felt great. TGS was made on a shoe string budget but “we” said “we” were going to do it and “we” did. It will forever be the project that made me grow up in Hollywood.

TBBO: Do you have any words of wisdom that you can share with women out there juggling career and single parenthood?

Single Mothers should all automatically go to heaven but till then…I would say nothing works without balance and planning. If you are a “Single Hot Mommy” make sure that you don’t forget “you” because your children will be following in your footsteps. Create a network, if you don’t have one, of other women (just like you) that can be of assistance and can rely on you to make things happen. Never give up you create life, you deserve great things.

TBBO: We know you are very busy with the community and different causes. Please share with our supporters what you are up to next.

I am now on KDay 93.5 in LA on Sunday Mornings on a show called Chopping It Up Live where we discuss real issues in the community like CHILD SUPPORT and take on the perspectives of the people.

I will be at The Comedy Store on Saturday, October 24 at 8 PM for Love Your Body Day- An event designed to encourage women to love themselves and embrace their image at any weight.

I will be at The Ice House on Sunday, October 25 at 8 PM performing in Laughs for Legalization as we fight for the Human Rights of ALL people.
