Song Seung-hun to direct Korean remake of John Woo’s “A Better Tomorrow”

A Korean remake of John Woo’s classic “A Better Tomorrow“, originally made in 1986, is set to be directed by Song Hae-sung, with a cast that includes Song Seung-hun and Ju Jin-mo.

Song Hae-sung’s previous films include “Failan” starring Choi Min-soo, “Maundy Thursday“, and “Rikidozan”, the biography of the South Korean-Japanese wrestler.

Jang Hyun-soo was previously set up as director until Fingerprint Pictures bought the remake rights to the film from Fortune Star Entertainment (Hong Kong) in 2006.

Song Seung-hun will play the role played by Chow Yun-fat in the original.

Ju Jin-mo (200 Pounds Beauty) will play the role made famous by Ti Lung, while Kim Kang-woo the role best known portrayed by Leslie Cheung.

The remake, currently titled “Moojeokja”, will bring only the characters and basic set-up from the original, with a completely different way of portraying them. The script has recently been finished, and the 8.7 million dollar picture begins shooting in January. The scheduled release is in late 2010.
