Last night in New York City, the crime drama “Brooklyn’s Finest” made its premiere, with a star studded kick-off! Special thanks to our friends at Overture, and the good folks at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13 theater, Tara Lockhart was able to check this film out, and mingle a little with some of the stars and the director, Antoine Fuqua. We were also able to sneak into enjoy the wonderful hospitality at the after-party!
The movie is in theaters Friday, and As you know, we’ve been following this movie (and its original ending) since Sundance! So we tried to leave everyone alone, and focus on the film. But red carpet exists for press questions, so…
It started with standing next to Don Cheadle…we couldn’t resist! I asked what his next role was.
Don Cheadle: Iron Man 2 is coming out May 7, 2010. “The Guard” will be coming out later this year. And I’m working on a Miles Davis project, I’ll be playing Miles Davis!
Cheadle’s been talking about this movie, based on the life of Jazz legend Miles Davis, for years now. And just when it seemed a script was coming together — it seemed like the project would never happen. So to hear that it will happen makes us happy for many reasons. For one — hey, It’s Don Cheadle playing Miles Davis. It doesn’t get much cooler than that. But also, it may be an indication that there’s money flowing out there somewhere — for good projects!
I then moved on, and talked to Shannon Kane. She was really cool to talk to, and we chatted a moment about her role in “Brooklyn’ Finest”:
TL: Have you seen many previews of the movie nowShannon Kane: I’ve see quite a few previews.
TL: Were all the screenings with a full house?
SK: All of them have had a full house, yes, thankfully.
TL: Tell us about your role.
SK: I play a Puerto Rician prostitute, that’s the love interest of Richard Gere, who plays a cop. She’s very sassy, very fun, and very fierce.
TL: Are there any similarities between you and your character?
SK: No, the exact opposite.
TL: So you’d consider yourself a quiet person?
SK: When I get around family that all changes, but yeah, usually I’m more reserved — you know.
TL: How was it working with this cast & crew?
SK: It was a definite blessing, I would never have had this opportunity anywhere else. Antoine really did a great job working with such great talent. It was the best.
TL: Were there any real memorable moments that stick out in your mind the most from shooting the film?
SK: Yes, there’s one scene that was taken out of the movie. Where I jump up on the bed, which has silk sheets. I jumped up on the bed & fell right on my butt.
TL: Well, that’s one way to break in a….
SK: (laughing) Talk about breaking in a role!
Then I talked to Wesley Snipes. Kam already talked to him the other day (read that interview HERE), but I was curious about what he’d been up to. It looks like “Brooklyn’s Finest” marks Wesley’s return!
TL: What’s after this?WS: “Back to Daddy”, which is a martial arts comedy. Then, “GallowWalker”, a Sci-Fi/Horror/Western. What else, oh yeah! We have a Science Fiction/action-adventure animated series coming up!
TL: Animated?
WS: Yeah, we’re doing it. Independent. It’s going through Amen-Ra filmworks.
Finally, Antoine Fuqua.
TL: What’s next for you?AF: “Consent to Kill”. It looks like it’s going to happen with CBS Films. It’s based on the Vince Flynn book. It’s a political Thriller about counterterrorism.
TL: Where are you expecting to film?
AF: Saudi Arabia, Spain, Vienna. But the film takes place in Virginia and Washington.
