Now in its 16th year, Film Independent’s Los Angeles Film Festival, presented by Los Angeles Times, showcases the best of American and international cinema. The 2010 Los Angeles Film Festival takes place June 17-27, 2010 in downtown Los Angeles. The Festival screens more than 200 features, shorts, documentaries and music videos from more than 40 countries. The Festival connects the movie-loving public to critically acclaimed filmmakers, film industry professionals, and emerging talent in the heart of Los Angeles, the entertainment capital of the world.
This year they are showing one of the most talked-about films at Sundance, “Night Catches Us”
CAST: Anthony Mackie, Kerry Washington, Jamie Hector, Wendell Pierce, Tariq Trotter, Amari Cheatom, Jamara Griffin, Ron Simons.
Tanya Hamilton’s ambitious, explosive first film stars the always compelling Anthony Mackie as Marcus, a former Black Panther returning home to deal with old wounds, an old love, and the tattered legacy of the Panthers.
Effortlessly melding the political and the personal in her rich cast of characters—including the volatile teen who wants to emulate the Black Panther’s gun-toting swagger and the widow Patricia, beautifully played by Kerry Washington, who still carries a flame for Marcus, the man who many believe betrayed her husband—Hamilton portrays a community still coming to terms with the racial and political battles of the ’60s while searching for a brighter future.
